New Year's Eve parties in Munich

Those in the mood to celebrate are drawn to Tollwood on Theresienwiese on New Year's Eve. The winter festival is a tried-and-tested party venue for the turn of the year! If you want to see out 2026 in style, celebrate here with live music and DJs at the legendary New Year's Eve party.

As every year, Muffatwerk is hosting a big New Year's Eve party in the café, Ampere and Muffathalle. Each area will feature a different DJ – from hip hop to electro and funk, there's something for everyone. At Milla Club, on the other hand, you can dance into the new year to indie pop! And at Backstage, too, there will be celebrations in all areas on New Year's Eve, with long drinks and shots available at discounted prices in recent years.

Other Munich clubs also invited guests to celebrate New Year's Eve. Hip-hop and the latest hits were played again in 2025 at the New Year's Eve party at Sweet. Around Maximiliansplatz, you can also toasted the New Year at the 089 Bar!

Munich residents celebrated exclusive New Year's Eve parties at P1 or Pacha Club. Last year, Filmcasino was once again host of a glamorous party with a five-course meal and champagne reception. Other clubs where you could toast the New Year last New Year's Eve included Milchbar and Neuraum.

Tips for New Year's Eve events in clubs, bars and lounges can also be found on Eventbrite. Further information on New Year's Eve and fireworks in Munich can be found at muenchen.de.

New Year's Eve menus in Munich

The Seehaus in the Englischer Garten (park) offered exclusive menus on New Year's Eve, providing the opportunity to relax and enjoy culinary delights as you ring in the new year 2027. In the Bavarian Stüberl, guests enjoyed a delicious New Year's Eve fondue in a cosy mountain hut atmosphere. Meanwhile, a New Year's Eve gala menu was served in the restaurant and pavilion – you could choose between the small or large version. There was also a vegan menu available!

At the Augustiner-Keller, guests celebrated with live music and a three-course meal in the ballroom, with a DJ and à la carte dinner in the storage cellar, or in the cosy Bürgerstube with a multi-course meal and sparkling wine.

The Andaz Hotel in Schwabing offered two New Year's Eve menus on different floors: at the modern meat restaurant The Lonely Broccoli on the ground floor and at the M'Uniqo Rooftop Bar on the top floor with views over the city. This bar on the 13th floor also offered a fantastic view of the city at midnight!

Gasthaus Waltz also presented a culinary New Year's Eve with an eight-course gourmet menu and plenty of fine wine.

The GOP Varieté Theatre was also offering New Year's Eve gala again: guests enjoyed a five-course meal (plus a surprise course!), alternating with the current show ‘HULLIS’, featuring both culinary and variety highlights. After midnight, there was a midnight buffet, a live band and a DJ who entertained guests with music until around 3 a.m.

The Mural Group was also hosting various culinary events on New Year's Eve at the Bar Mural and the Mural Restaurant.

In the Australian Fitzroy guests enjoyed a six-course menu, while the Michelin-starred Mountain Hub Gourmet restaurant at Munich Airport offers five courses with champagne and wine pairings.

Many other restaurants in Munich were also hosting special dinners or multi-course meals on New Year's Eve, including Restaurant Huber in Bogenhausen, Frau im Mond at the Deutsches Museum, Löwenbräukeller on Stiglmaierplatz and the restaurants at the Bayerischer Hof, including the two-Michelin-starred Atelier, the Garden Restaurant and the Polynesian restaurant Trader Vic's.

Cultural events on New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve concerts in the Residenz

The Cuvilliés-Theater in the Residenz was hosting three New Year's Eve matinees on 31 December 2025: performances took place in the morning, afternoon and evening. There was also a special New Year's Eve concert in the neighbouring Hofkapelle (Court Chapel) of the Residenz. In the afternoon, the Munich Radio Orchestra played excerpts from operas and operettas by Mozart and others in the Herkulessaal. In the Max Joseph Hall in the Residenz, the ‘Ensemble Clemente’ performed several Baroque masterpieces in the afternoon, followed by the Munich String Quartet in the evening. In addition, a festive New Year's Eve concert took place in the Allerheiligen-Hofkirche (All Saints' Court Church) of the Residenz at 5 pm.

Further classical New Year's Eve concerts & church concerts in Munich

There were also two concerts on New Year's Eve at the Isarphilharmonie in the Gasteig HP8's alternative venue: the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra played Beethoven from 5 p.m., and the Munich Symphony Orchestra's New Year's Eve concert began at 8 pm. In the afternoon, the Opera Brass, the brass ensemble of the Bavarian State Orchestra for almost 30 years, gave a concert in the Great Hall of the University of Music and Performing Arts. And in the Heilig-Geist-Kirche at the Viktualienmarkt, a New Year's Eve concert with trumpet and organ was played starting at 8 p.m.

Theatre, comedy and cabaret on New Year's Eve

At the Lustspielhaus, the old year ends and the new year began with cabaret artist Django Asül, who presented a satirical review of the year. The Galli Theater in the Amalienpassage is staging the play ‘Der Beziehungscoach’ (The Relationship Coach) on New Year's Eve. The small theatre Viel Lärm um Nichts in the Pasinger Fabrik invited you to its own production ‘Freuhoit in Kräääh-Winkel’ at the turn of the year. The Prinzregententheater presented magic as part of ‘Magic! Zauber der Illusion’ (Magic! The Magic of Illusion). And at the Deutsches Theater, you watched ‘The Bodyguard’ on New Year's Eve! The Volkstheater staged the new play ‘Glaube Liebe Roboter’ (Believe Love Robots) at 6 pm.

Events for children on New Year's Eve

The Munich Marionette Theatre staged two performances on New Year's Eve: in the afternoon for the little ones, ‘Teddys großes Weihnachtsabenteuer’ (Teddy's Big Christmas Adventure), and in the evening for teenagers and adults, ‘Die Zauberflöte’ (The Magic Flute). The Munich Theatre for Children was also showing a play on New Year's Eve; from 8 pm. you could see the guest production ‘Die ewige Zweitbesetzung’ (The Eternal Understudy). And Circus Krone was also open on New Year's Eve, showing its current winter programme!

New Year's Eve Mile in Munich & Viewing Points for the Fireworks

At the turn of the year 2026/2027, there will once again be a ban on fireworks and firecrackers in Munich's city centre. The ban applies from Stachus to Marienplatz and Viktualienmarkt. Fireworks are also not permitted in the English Garden for fire safety and nature conservation reasons. This regulation also applies to Nymphenburg Palace Park and the Residenz courtyards!

Last year, for the first time, the New Year's Eve Mile in Ludwigstrasse from the Siegestor ensured a great atmosphere: from 7 pm onwards, there were ight shows, art installations and live music. Street food trucks provided culinary delights.

Those who want to watch the organised fireworks display from the Tollwood Winter Festival can meet around the Theresienwiese. The Friedensengel offers a wonderful view over Munich. This meeting place has now achieved cult status and has become a New Year's Eve tradition. You can also toast with a glass of sparkling wine on the numerous bridges over the Isar. There was also plenty of space on the Hackerbrücke (bridge) to marvel at the fireworks over the city, but you are not allowed to set off fireworks here yourself.

If you want to do so, you have to leave the Mittlerer Ring and drive to the Olympiaberg, for example.

A sporty start to the new year – New Year's Eve run and New Year's run

The RoadRunners Club e.V. once again invited participants to its New Year's Eve run this year: the popular running event took place in Munich for the 40th time this year. The routes are circular courses through the Olympic Park, started and finished at the small Olympic Hall in 2025.

The Munich New Year's Run on January 1, on the other hand, took place through the Englischer Garten. This time, everyone runs on his own.
