New Year's Eve parties in Munich

Partygoers are drawn to the Theresienwiese on New Year’s Eve for Tollwood: The winter festival is a time-honored party hotspot for ringing in the New Year! If you want to end 2026 in style, come celebrate here with live music and DJs at the legendary New Year’s Eve party.

The Bergson Kunstkraftwerk is also hosting a New Year’s Eve celebration: The party starts at 9 p.m. in the atrium and runs until 2 a.m. The music lineup features a DJ and live performances spanning the ’80s through the 2000s. Saxophone, percussion, and trombone accompany the DJ’s set, and at midnight, everyone counts down together to welcome the New Year.

Other Munich clubs are also inviting guests to celebrate on New Year’s Eve. As is customary, details about additional parties for the 2026/2027 New Year’s Eve celebrations will be announced in the fall.

You can also celebrate exclusive New Year’s Eve parties at P1 or the Pacha Club. Last year, the Filmcasino hosted a glamorous party featuring a five-course meal and a champagne reception. Other clubs where you could toast the New Year last New Year’s Eve included the Milchbar and the Neuraum.

New Year's Eve menus in Munich

At the Bergson Kunstkraftwerk, you can combine New Year’s Eve with dinner and a party. At the Zeitlang restaurant, the evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a welcome aperitif, and a four-course menu is served starting at 7 p.m. A paired wine selection is available upon request. Starting at 9 p.m., the festivities continue in the atrium with a DJ and live music; the party ends around 2 a.m.

The Seehaus in the Englischer Garten (park) offered exclusive menus on New Year's Eve, providing the opportunity to relax and enjoy culinary delights as you ring in the new year 2027. In the Bavarian Stüberl, guests enjoyed a delicious New Year's Eve fondue in a cosy mountain hut atmosphere. Meanwhile, a New Year's Eve gala menu was served in the restaurant and pavilion – you could choose between the small or large version. There was also a vegan menu available!

At the Augustiner-Keller, guests celebrated with live music and a three-course meal in the ballroom, with a DJ and à la carte dinner in the storage cellar, or in the cosy Bürgerstube with a multi-course meal and sparkling wine.

The Andaz Hotel in Schwabing offered two New Year's Eve menus on different floors: at the modern meat restaurant The Lonely Broccoli on the ground floor and at the M'Uniqo Rooftop Bar on the top floor with views over the city. This bar on the 13th floor also offered a fantastic view of the city at midnight!

Gasthaus Waltz also presented a culinary New Year's Eve with an eight-course gourmet menu and plenty of fine wine.

The GOP Varieté Theater is also hosting its New Year’s Eve gala once again: Guests will enjoy both culinary and variety highlights during a four-course meal interspersed with performance segments from the current winter program “CIRCUS.” The New Year’s Eve gala begins at 6:30 p.m. with a champagne reception. After midnight, there will be a snack buffet and an after-show party. And on New Year’s Eve, the Mural Group hosted various culinary events at the Bar Mural and the Mural Restaurant. In the Australian-themed Fitzroy, guests gathered for a six-course meal.

The Frau im Mond on the roof of the Deutsches Museum will also be ringing in the New Year. The New Year’s Eve party starts on December 31 at 7:00 p.m. and runs until the early morning hours of January 1. A festive menu will be offered, with a choice of a classic or vegetarian option, along with a selection of drinks for the evening.

Many other restaurants in Munich are also hosting a special dinner or a multi-course meal on New Year’s Eve—including, for example, Restaurant Huber in Bogenhausen, the Löwenbräukeller on Stiglmaierplatz, and the restaurants at the Bayerischer Hof, which include the two-star restaurant Atelier, the Garden Restaurant, and the Polynesian restaurant Trader Vic’s.

Cultural events on New Year's Eve

 

New Year's Eve concerts in the Residenz

The Cuvilliés-Theater in the Residenz is hosting three events on December 31, 2026: “Opera Brass” performs at 11 a.m., and Engelbert Humperdinck’s fairy-tale opera “Hansel and Gretel” is on the program from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. and again from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m.

There will also be two special New Year’s Eve concerts in the neighboring Court Chapel of the Residence (city palace): from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

A classical program will also take place in the Hercules Hall on New Year’s Eve. A New Year’s Eve concert begins in the afternoon, followed by the Festive New Year’s Eve Gala in the evening.

In the Max-Joseph-Saal at the Residence (city palace), New Year’s Eve begins at 11 a.m. with a matinee. In the afternoon, the “New Year’s Eve Master Concert I” takes place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed in the evening by the “New Year’s Eve Master Concert II” from 8 to 10 p.m.

In addition, a festive New Year’s Eve concert will take place at 5 p.m. in the Allerheiligen-Hofkirche (church) at the Residence.

 

Further classical New Year's Eve concerts & church concerts in Munich

There were also two concerts on New Year's Eve at the Isarphilharmonie - the temporary venue for the Gasteig HP8 - the Munich Philharmonic will perform its New Year’s Eve concert on December 31, 2026, starting at 5 p.m. The program features Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

The Bergson Kunstkraftwerk will also host musical celebrations on the last day of the year: The Bergson Jazz Orchestra will perform “The Music of Glenn Miller” three times—at 1:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. at the Elektra Tonquartier.

At the University of Music and Performing Arts, Quadro Nuevo will perform twice on New Year’s Eve. The concerts begin at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The concerts begin at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

 

Theatre, comedy and cabaret on New Year's Eve

At the Lustspielhaus, the old year ends and the new one begins once again with cabaret artist Django Asül. His satirical year-in-review show starts at 2 p.m., followed by the New Year’s Eve event in the evening.

The Galli Theater in the Amalienpassage will present, among other shows, “Der Beziehungscoach” on New Year’s Eve.

The small theater Viel Lärm um Nichts at the Pasinger Fabrik will present its original production “EIN HEISSES HERZ” on December 31 at 6 p.m. The performance runs until around 8:30 p.m.

At the Prinzregententheater, “Breakin’ Circus” is on the program for New Year’s Eve.

And at the Deutsches Theater, you can catch “Falco meets Amadeus” on New Year’s Eve: Performances begin at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

 

Events for children on New Year's Eve

The Munich Marionette Theater is hosting two performances on New Year’s Eve: At 2:00 p.m., “Teddy’s Big Christmas Adventure” will be shown for the little ones; the performance ends around 3:30 p.m. In the evening, the “Old Munich Evening” begins at 7:00 p.m. and lasts until about 9:15 p.m. The Munich Theater for Children also offers a program on New Year’s Eve. “Oh, How Beautiful Is Panama” begins at 10:00 a.m. At the Bergson Kunstkraftwerk, New Year’s Eve also gets off to a family-friendly start: At 11:00 a.m., the one-hour family concert “Der bunte Knall” begins, featuring percussionist Samuel Wootton.

New Year's Eve Mile in Munich & Viewing Points for the Fireworks

At the turn of the year 2026/2027, there will once again be a ban on fireworks and firecrackers in Munich's city centre. The ban applies from Stachus to Marienplatz and Viktualienmarkt. Fireworks are also not permitted in the English Garden for fire safety and nature conservation reasons. This regulation also applies to Nymphenburg Palace Park and the Residenz courtyards!

At the turn of the year 2025–2026, the New Year’s Eve Mile on Ludwigstrasse between Siegestor (gate) and Odeonsplatz (square) created a lively atmosphere for the first time: On December 31, 2025, the program began at 7 p.m. Along the roughly 800-meter-long entertainment and party mile, there were four stages, light and laser shows, art installations, concerts, and street food trucks. More information about the 2026 New Year’s Eve Mile will be published soon.

Those who want to watch the organized fireworks display at the Tollwood Winter Festival should gather around the Theresienwiese (Oktoberfest fairground). You can enjoy a wonderful view of Munich from the Friedensengel (Angel of Peace). This meeting spot is no longer an insider tip and has since achieved cult status. You can also toast with a glass of sparkling wine on the numerous bridges over the Isar (river). There was also plenty of space on the Hackerbrücke to marvel at the fireworks over the city, though you’re not allowed to set off your own fireworks there.

If you want to do so, you have to leave the Mittlerer Ring and drive to the Olympiaberg, for example.

A sporty start to the new year – New Year's Eve run and New Year's run

In 2026, the München RoadRunners Club e.V. will once again host its New Year’s Eve Run: On December 31, the popular running event will take place for the 41st time. The routes wind through the Olympiapark (Olympic Park). There are various distances to choose from for different age groups: a 500-meter run for children, a 2-kilometer run, and runs over 5 and 10 kilometers. There is currently no confirmed, up-to-date announcement for a Munich New Year’s Run on January 1, 2027.
