Attention garden and culture lovers! On May 15, 2024, the 35th Bayerische Landesgartenschau was opened in Kirchheim, just a stone's throw from Munich. For 145 days, until 6 October 2024, you can explore the adventure of nature under the motto “Growing together“.
“Growing together connects everything we care about“ is the motto in detail of next year's garden festival. In addition to a large summer fair with sports and games, catering and culture, the organisers of the 35th Bayerische Landesgartenschau also attach great importance to environmental and climate protection. In the newly opened 100,000 square metre Kirchheim city park, around 90 exhibitors will inspire visitors with their ideas for sustainable garden and landscape design.
The fair is easy to reach from Munich by bus or train. It takes less than twenty minutes to get to the Heimstetten suburban railway station (S2) from Munich's Ostbahnhof (Munich East). From there, it is only a few minutes' walk to the south entrance of the Landesgartenschau grounds. Of course, there is also a parking lot for those arriving by car.
Know-how from the pros – renowned gardening and landscaping companies, as well as ministries and authorities will demonstrate how to attractively design the home garden or balcony, regardless of its size. In this context, they will also present plants that are particularly well adapted to climate change.
The entire planting of the horticultural show park is done with an eye to the future, so that it is well prepared for the climatic changes of the coming years. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about this concept during guided tours and lectures. In five so-called flower rooms (open pavilions), Bavarian florists will present their skills and rearrange the floral splendour every fortnight, according to the season and the theme of the event.
Children will certainly love to join and spend time in the park's very special playground. Its design was inspired by the Celtic settlers who lived in Kirchheim 4500 years ago. The 3,000 square metre “Keltenwelten“ playground invites kids to explore climbing towers, build with water and sand and conquer palisade walls. Inclusive play equipment will also be provided.
The overall concept of the State Horticultural Show includes a high degree of accessibility. In Kirchheim, special care was taken to ensure that there is a seating area at least every 100 metres. The catering facilities are located directly at the Parksee (park lake) and invite visitors to linger while enjoying the water terraces and lakeside balconies. Guests taking a break at the “Generationenplatz“ square are greeted by roses and colourful perennials, while the “Blütenbar“ flower bar is a relaxing spot to round off the day.
The Landesgartenschau in Kirchheim will run for a whole 145 days - and every day there will be a colourful programme of events for children and adults: Among others, Claudia Koreck, TroubleShooters, Ami Warning, Dis M, CubaBoarischen 2.0 and Double Drums will be playing concerts. Cabaret artist Django Asül and poet Bumillo will also be performing. The events at the Landesgartenschau are included for everyone who has a day ticket or season ticket. A season ticket is worthwhile from the sixth visit!
If you want to plan in advance which day is particularly worth a visit, take a look at the Landesgartenschau events calendar with over 2500 events. These include not only concerts and cabaret, but also open-air cinema, workshops, exhibitions and a special children's programme.
Children and young people up to the age of 17 can even enjoy the programme for free - admission to the Landesgartenschau is free for them. There is a large programme for the young target group: families with children are particularly in focus on three weekends. The Blue Light Weekend (15 & 16 June 2024) brings fireworks, police and water rescue services to life, the Machine Weekend (3 & 4 August 2024) promises a performance by the special walking act "Herd of Machine Beings" and the Young Culture Weekend (14 & 15 September 2024) offers a colourful cultural programme for all ages.
There will also be theme days and theme weekends on biodiversity, nutrition and sustainability. Mondays are particularly worth a visit for nature and butterfly fans, Tuesdays are for those who enjoy exercise and hobby artists, and Wednesdays focus on community. Thursday is all about faith and spirituality and Friday is all about pausing and thinking about a sustainable tomorrow.
The 2024 State Garden Show is also divided into ten themed weeks - these are organised under the motto "Spring Awakening at the Garden Show", "Flowers - as far as the eye can see" or "Experience nature with all your senses". Visitors should also not miss the Radio Arabella Disco Night with open-air disco on 27 July 2024 and the big State Garden Show Summer Festival with the band "Flatout" on 20 and 21 July 2024.
