Munich’s cultural beaches offer a summer holiday atmosphere right in the city centre: the cultural beach by the Vater-Rhein-Brunnen fountain invites visitors to enjoy the view of the Isar. The Maximiliansstrand by the Wittelsbacher Brunnen offers sand, drinks and music right in the city centre. The Neptunbrunnen cultural beer garden in the Old Botanical Garden is a real asset to the station district. And this summer, a new cultural beach at Professor-Huber-Platz at the LMU is being added!
The “urbanauten Kulturstrand“ takes place annually at the Vater-Rhein-Brunnen on the Ludwigsbrücke from May up to September. It enables all Munich citizens and of course all guests to experience the summer holiday feeling on the beach right by the Isar. Between live-music, film screenings and workshops, there are many other events on the programme, further details on the several events can be found on the urbanauten website.
Every day from 12 pm to 11 pm people can meet here to relax and enjoy the cultural programme. Everyone is welcome to think, talk and help design the event. In combination with the beach feeling, visitors can expect a wide range of music, children's and sports programme. On eight days the so-called courtyard concerts are going to take place with live-music, a lounge and a photo booth.
All dates for the entire programme or other events can be found in the Kulturstrand programme calendar and on the official Facebook page of the urbanauten. On this page, the organisers also provide information about rain, highlights and the life at the Kulturstrand.

In 2024 a second “Kulturstrand“ also opened in Munich: Maximilian's Beach directly behind the Wittelsbacher Brunnen. The organisers behind Urbanauten, who also run the cultural beach on the Isar, had 26 tonnes of sand piled up there. Visitors to Stachus now not only get that beach feeling, but also live concerts and cool drinks. The Maximiliansstrand runs just as long as the Kulturstrand!

Last year, the Neptunbrunnen Cultural Beer Garden demonstrated just how beautifully the centrally located Old Botanical Garden can be brought to life. Alongside live shows and concerts, there was children’s karaoke, yoga, qigong and many other sporting activities. The pop-up project aims to build on this success again this year: from early May to mid-August, there will once again be a packed programme, drinks and events on offer here.

A brand-new addition this year is a cultural beach in front of LMU at Professor-Huber-Platz: here too, there will be a free programme of music, sports activities and a beach atmosphere throughout the summer, starting at the end of May. The central location in the heart of Maxvorstadt will be particularly popular with students, who can spend time here after their lectures. The new cultural beach is scheduled to run with a varied programme until the end of the summer holidays!
