Day tour for groups: Neuschwanstein

The Bavarian fairytale castle

Discover the legendary Schloss Neuschwanstein and other cultural highlights amidst the marvellous backdrop of the Bavarian Alps - comfortably accompanied by an official guide.

"Fairy-tale" – there’s no better word to describe Neuschwanstein Castle, perched high above the village of Hohenschwangau. Inspired by medieval legends and the operas of Richard Wagner, King Ludwig II of Bavaria commissioned this unique structure: a blend of medieval fantasy architecture, cutting-edge 19th-century technology, and a magnificent Alpine backdrop.

The story of the "Fairy-tale King", his passion for the arts, and his mysterious death continue to add to the castle's myth. It’s no surprise that Neuschwanstein even inspired Walt Disney’s iconic fairy-tale castle.

As you travel through the idyllic Bavarian countryside, you’ll hear fascinating background information about the region and about Ludwig II. Upon arrival, you can ascend to the castle on foot, by shuttle bus, or by horse-drawn carriage. There, a guided tour awaits you through opulent interiors and breathtaking views over the surrounding landscape.

Depending on your chosen tour, additional highlights can be included:

  • Schloss Linderhof – Ludwig’s favourite palace, featuring a disappearing dining table, an artificial "Venus Grotto", and exotic park buildings.
  • Oberammergau – renowned for its world-famous Passion Play, Lüftlmalerei (traditional frescoes), and intricate woodcarvings.
  • Kloster Ettal – a baroque Benedictine monastery with an impressive dome.
  • Wieskirche – a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Rococo style, created by the Zimmermann brothers.

Additional options on request:

  • Museum of the Bavarian Kings – showcasing the history of the Wittelsbach dynasty.
  • Schloss Hohenschwangau – the summer residence of King Maximilian II, where Ludwig II spent his childhood.
