Day tour for groups: Donau (Danube)

On the beautiful blue Donau

Who doesn't immediately think of the famous waltz when they hear ‘Donau’ (Danube river)? The longest section of the beautiful blue Danube flows through Bavaria in Germany. And Bavaria was a kingdom until 1918, with its seat of government in Munich. Join us on a day trip along the Danube to two royal temples, the Walhalla and the Liberation Hall in Kelheim, and to Weltenburg Abbey in a unique location on the Danube Gorge.

Parts of the tour - Walhalla and Liberation Hall in Kelheim

In the mid-19th century, Bavarian King Ludwig I erected the Walhalla and the Liberation Hall in Kelheim along the Danube as a memorial to war heroes and numerous other distinguished personalities from the past and present. They are among the most important German national monuments and commemorate the Napoleonic Wars. Today, both buildings are significant examples of classical architecture.

Magnificent location on the Danube Gorge – Weltenburg Monastery

We are delighted to send you on this special journey with one of our certified guides: during the trip and later on site, they will entertain you with everything you need to know about the history of the top sights along the river. Another stop is the famous Weltenburg Monastery at the picturesque Danube Gorge, whose history dates back to the year 600. Here, you can look forward to a visit to the abbey church, which was built and decorated by the Asam brothers between 1716 and 1739. It is one of the most beautiful examples of late Baroque architecture in Europe.

In addition to the sights mentioned above, you are welcome to book a guided walk through the lively old town of Kelheim. A boat trip between Kelheim and Weltenburg Abbey is also possible at any time, except in winter or when the water level of the Danube is low.
