Why do we actually celebrate Easter? A palm donkey and pictures of the events in Jerusalem, but also Mary Magdalene, Peter and a rooster can provide information. In this family activity, children aged 6 and over learn about the traditions of Holy Week and create an Easter candle as a sign of light and resurrection.

What's bustling about on the tables? So many people, animals, trees and shrubs. On a stroll through the museum, we will be inspired by Rococo porcelain arrangements and collect ideas for our own tablescapes, which we will mould, design and paint ourselves using a wide variety of materials. You are welcome to bring your own materials: Stones, snail shells, shells, small pieces of wood or even glass marbles, which will become part of your arrangement that will accompany you through spring at home.

Even more than 300 years after its premiere, Johann Sebastian Bach's St. John Passion remains one of the most impressive and dramatically effective works in music history. On Easter Sunday, Gasteig HP8 is anything but tranquil and quiet. At the Isarflux Festival 2026 in Gasteig HP8, punk bands meet musical theater, folk sounds, and live DJs. Right next to the stage, there is a clothing swap and information on social engagement. Every year, the trainees at Gasteig are responsible for this Easter party. From selecting and booking the artists to stage and lighting technology and marketing, the entire festival is in their hands. Admission is free.

A visit to the opera is perfect for the long Easter weekend: Puccini's “TOSCA” will be performed at the National Theater on Easter Monday. The traditional Easter market in Bad Tölz, which is around 50 km south of Munich, takes place every year against the picturesque backdrop of Marktstrasse and heralds the arrival of spring with its very special atmosphere. Perfect for families: 80 years ago, Finnish artist Tove Jansson created the Moomins – those iconic, round troll creatures that are now loved around the world. Long Story Short tells the story of contemporary art from the 1960s to the present day, drawing on works from the Brandhorst Collection. The Bayerisches Nationalmuseum (Bavarian National Museum) on Prinzregentenstrasse is one of the great museums of art and cultural history in Europe. In a varied tour, visitors can discover the Western art epochs from late antiquity to Art Nouveau. In addition to masterpieces of sculpture and painting, ivory and goldsmith's work, ceremonial clocks, tapestries, furniture, weapons and exquisite porcelain are on display. On Sundays, admission is heavily discounted and costs just one euro.
