Glion Institute study trip from 2 to 5 May 2022

Young MICE talents on a study tour in Munich

Young talent is also urgently needed in the MICE industry. In May 2022, Munich was visited by 120 students from the Glion Institute of Higher Education, specialising in Hospitality and Events.

The prospective event and hotel managers travelled from their campuses in Zurich and London. The interactive study tour programme was coordinated by the event agency Weichlein Tours + Incentives, which gave the entire programme an incentive touch. The aim of the study visit was to give the students a better overview of the hospitality landscape in Munich and their career prospects after graduation.

During their stay in Munich, the programme included typical local dinners at the Ratskeller, the Augustiner Klosterwirt and the Augustiner Bräustuben as well as visits to various venues and hotels. For example, the students got to know the Showpalast München, a theatre in the Fröttmaning district that has been in existence since 2017 and was originally built for the horse show Apassionata. Today, the Showpalast serves as a location for numerous, very different events. During the group's visit to the Showpalast, a horse training session took place, which the participants followed with great interest.

At the Hilton Hotel Munich City, the Sofitel Munich Bayerpost, the Westin Grand Munich and the Wunderlocke, there were site inspections, during which they not only got to know the conference facilities, but also learned more about the run-up and operations behind the events. The whole group was able to stay overnight at the Eurostars Book Hotel Munich near the main station.

The students, teachers and we had a few very exciting and entertaining days in Munich, during which we all learned a lot of new things.

During the VIP tour at the football stadium Allianz Arena, the students not only got to know the famous turf of FC Bayern Munich, but also the facilities and options available there for events and meetings. At some of the locations visited on the trip, the young people were also able to get into personal contact with the managers and ask questions about the challenges of the industry in general and the respective location in particular.

Marina Parra-Flechsig, Managing Director of Weichlein Tours + Incentives, provided another in-depth insight into the MICE industry. She gave a presentation on the entire organisational process for an event for over 1,000 guests, which was actually realised a few weeks later, in June, at the Showpalast. In the Q&A afterwards, Glion students were allowed to ask questions and express opinions on the topic.

The Glion Institute of Higher Education is a private, international hotel management school with two campuses in Switzerland and one in the UK. Glion offers Bachelor and Master degree programmes as well as short programmes such as the Glion Summer Program or the Luxury Hospitality Summer Program. According to the QS World University Rankings 2021 by subject, Glion is among the top three universities for hotel and leisure management.

Both the students and the accompanying teachers from the Glion Institute were very pleased with the hospitality and commitment of everyone involved in Munich. "The trip was organised with precision and commitment, and we are very happy that Munich and Weichlein Tours + Incentives always supported us at the right level throughout our stay," said Glion Institute teachers Barbara Czyzewska, Giovanni Manfredini and Reka Mizsei after the trip.

Marina Parra-Flechsig from Weichlein Tours + Incentives was also very satisfied with the trip: "The students, teachers and we had a few very exciting and entertaining days, during which we all learned a lot of new things. Special thanks to all the partners involved in the programme. We look forward to hosting a variety of hospitality programmes in Munich in the future."
