MICE Achievement Award for Jochen Schweizer

MICE meets Experience in Munich

At the end of March, more than 160 athletes demonstrated breathtaking maneuvers and choreographies in four different disciplines at the second German Indoor Skydiving Championship in the Jochen Schweizer Arena.

You don’t have to go skydiving out of an aeroplane if you want to know what it feels like to float in mid-air. At least not if you’re in Munich. Instead, you can go bodyflying in the 15-metre high high-tech wind tunnel of the Jochen Schweizer Arena in Taufkirchen on the outskirts of Munich. Fitted out with purpose-made suits the bodyflyers, professionally guided by flying instructors, take off for an exciting flying experience in the air stream directed upwards at a speed of up to 285 kilometres per hour.

This new sport, a.k.a. indoor skydiving, has become so popular that meanwhile professional tournaments are being held. There’s even talk of a new Olympic discipline. In late March, 163 athletes performed breathtaking mid-air manoeuvres and choreographies in four categories at the second German Indoor Skydiving Championship at the Jochen Schweizer Arena in Munich. Air dancer Laurie Lubbe’s acrobatics were particularly mesmerising.

The 15.000-square-metre Jochen Schweizer Arena, established in March 2017, covers various sports and services, ranging from bodyflying and indoor surfing through to the Schweizer’s Kitchen restaurant as well as a dedicated event and corporate function space. The Jochen Schweizer citywave is Germany’s first indoor surfing experience. The wave height can be seamlessly adjusted and the water is kept at a cosy 24 to 26 degrees.

Meetings and adventures

The outdoor park includes a high ropes course with routes for first-time, advanced and professional climbers as well as the Flying Fox XL Parcours and the Team Mission Parcours. At Jochen Schweizer Arena private and business customers can find creative experience offerings for all seasons, e.g. for coachings, corporate events, incentive programmes, brand or product launches. It is also possible to book the entire Arena.

As a venue for business events, the Jochen Schweizer Arena provides various opportunities to combine work-related activities with motivating and inspiring tasks. The Arena includes several multi-purpose rooms with modern conference equipment, ranging from a comfy lounge to a hall that can accommodate up to 300 visitors. As regards catering, customers can opt for a “Flying Buffet”, a gala dinner, an outdoor BBQ, or any other culinary offering that meets their tastes and expectations.

A high-class incentive programme staged at the Jochen Schweizer Arena could start off with a kick-off meeting in the “Eventrotor”, followed by a bodyflying, surfing or climbing session, and concluding with a casual BBQ on the sun deck.

MICE Achievement Award for Jochen Schweizer

In November 2018, Jochen Schweizer himself was awarded the MICE Achievement Award at the mbt Meetingplace, the trade fair for business travel, conference and event planners, at the Postpalast in Munich. This lifetime achievement award honours outstanding services to the MICE industry, rendered in either a professional or voluntary capacity. The mbt Meetingplace committee highlighted the company’s leadership on the event and experience market, and praised the exceptional event concept of the “Vertical Catwalk” as well as the Jochen Schweizer Arena, a premium experience and event destination.
