In close cooperation with Munich Airport, Munich Tourism and numerous partners from Bavaria, Lufthansa has launched its first stopover offer for the Munich hub.
This opens up new holiday opportunities: international guests from Singapore and the USA who are transferring through Munich can easily extend their journey to include a stay in Munich without having to book a separate flight. Munich is thus positioned even more strongly as a destination in its own right within international travel itineraries.
A key component of the offer is the Munich Pass, issued by the City of Munich, which can be added to bookings at a reduced rate. We want to encourage guests right from the start to explore the city sustainably using public transport. At the same time, the tourist passes facilitate access to numerous attractions, so that visitors can relax and experience plenty of Munich during their stay.
Why is the new stopover offer so significant for Munich as a tourism and events destination?
The stopover package, which is now available to book, demonstrates what can be achieved through close collaboration between stakeholders from the transport, hospitality, retail and catering sectors. Reconciling these differing interests was not always easy, but the focus remained on the shared benefits for the city and its visitors.
It is precisely in a global environment characterised by uncertainty that we see just how important it is to identify opportunities at an early stage and actively capitalise on them. International travel is changing, but Munich remains a key hub between Asia and North America. The new stopover programme offers the opportunity to attract transit passengers to our city and introduce them to Munich as a cosmopolitan, liveable and culturally diverse metropolis.
