At the Infopoint Museen & Schlösser in Bayern, located in the Alter Hof in Munich’s Old Town, you can pick up brochures and receive personalised advice on museums and castles in Munich and Bavaria. In the Gothic vaulted cellar, you’ll also find a free multimedia exhibition on the city’s history.
The Infopoint Museen & Schlösser in Bayern (Museums & Castles in Bavaria) provides a wealth of information on the approximately 1,300 museums in Munich and Bavaria. Organised by theme and location, there is a suitable selection of museums to suit every interest, inviting visitors to explore them. The brochures on display provide information on museums in and around Munich, exhibitions, activities specifically for children, and the Bavarian Castle Region. Visitors can find further information in the reading corner and on the museum portal.
The Information Point is characterised by its spacious and light-filled room. It is wheelchair-accessible and can accommodate larger groups. Tickets for the castles, books and souvenirs can be purchased in the shop. Staff are also on hand to answer any questions.
In the Gothic vaulted cellar, a free multimedia exhibition provides information about Munich’s history, the Alter Hof as the oldest royal residence and imperial castle, and Emperor Ludwig IV, better known as Emperor Ludwig der Bayer (the Bavarian). The interactive exhibition invites visitors to look, listen and linger. A short film vividly explains the development of the city of Munich and how the ruling House of Wittelsbach influenced it. Furthermore, a multimedia presentation on Ludwig the Bavarian and the Alter Hof begins every hour on the hour.
Infopoint Museen & Schlösser in Bayern is located in the Alter Hof, the Wittelsbach family’s first imperial castle dating from the 13th century, and is not far from the central Marienplatz. The inner courtyard of the medieval castle complex is a tranquil oasis of calm in Munich’s Old Town and invites visitors to linger, with seating available by the fountain.
