An official City of Munich tour guide will take you through the hidden world of gardeners, retailers, importers, transport companies and market traders.
Fresh every day! The motto of the Grossmarkthalle (main market hall) in Munich promises both quality and culinary enjoyment. The "belly" of Munich has been around since 1912, and with its diverse range of food and flowers it is one of the largest wholesale market halls in Europe. The catchment area extends south to Tyrol and north to Aschaffenburg.
During this tour, you can explore exotic and regional specialities, some of your favourite delicacies and some new ones, too. Experience the unique rhythm of the Grossmarkthalle.
You’ll find out how the city used to get its food and the market’s vision for the future. With the tour guide, you’ll immerse yourself in day-to-day life at the market, exploring the “belly” of Munich with all of your senses. You will also learn curiosities such as why there is left-hand traffic on one of the entry roads and where the last of four functioning paternosters in Munich is located.
Note: Please wear non-slip footwear. This tour is not suitable for children under the age of nine.
Here you will find an overview of guided tours for individuals.
