Spreading joy, celebrating culture and raising awareness for the environment and social equality are all on the agenda at this Munich festival.
Over the Christmas period, the Tollwood Winter Festival at Theresienwiese invites guests to explore the “Market of Ideas” with its arts, crafts and organic fare. The goods on offer include embroidered handbags, fair trade clothing, jewellery, pottery and plenty more.
Anyone on the lookout for a unique Christmas gift is sure to find something here. Or perhaps you’ve arranged to meet friends for a bite to eat at Tollwood. In that case, you will be able to choose from dishes like Indian curry, couscous, African specialities, mulled wine or bratwurst in a roll.
Two other popular features at the Winter Festival include its programme of shows starring international theatre companies and the “Weltsalon” tent, which hosts events on current social and environmental issues. At New Year, the event’s organisers host a huge New Year’s Eve party with DJs and live music, ranging from Balkan beats and reggae to rock, pop, funk and soul.
Alternatively, Tollwood also hosts a New Year’s Gala with an organic five-course meal and a programme of entertainment, including cabaret, drama and music. And when the clock strikes twelve, it kicks off the traditional “Mitternachtswalzer” (“Midnight Waltz”) at Tollwood and a spectacular firework display.
